“Full Steam Ahead”
mixed media
2009

In “Full Steam Ahead”, Thomas explores the complex relationship of two artists living together and being consumed by their work. Plunging full on into a relationship while maintaining an enormous output of work can lead to a tangled mess and actually not much of a relationship. In a normal functioning relationship, the toothbrushes would be shown standing tall and ready to be used. By twisting the toothbrushes around each other and having their faces looking away from each other, Thomas shows that when a couple loses sight of what it means to be in a relationship and are too busy with their own ideas they don’t even realize that they each are no longer functional.

Thomas is a mixed media artist and experimental musician living and working in Brooklyn. He is also the founder and director of Spread Art in Williamsburg Brooklyn. His work has been shown throughout the United States and is in numerous private collections.
