Spread Art is pleased to announce that we received $7,500 from the Michigan Council on Arts and Cultural Affairs for General Operating in 2016. These general operating funds will help Spread Art continue to grow and provide support for our artist in residency program as well as our presenting programs. During the past year Spread Art has received a $5,000 grant from the Sustainable Arts Foundation as well as being awarded $35,000 over two year from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation through the Detroit Knight Arts Challenge to support our residency program. While the Sustainable Arts funding has gone to support visual and literary artists with Children under the age of 18, The Knight Arts Challenge funds will support 8 Detroit based artists each with a three month residency. These awards and funding has helped Spread Art double the number of residencies offered per year from 12 to 24 and has also allowed program to increase from 47 event in 2014 to over 60 in 2015. Without the support from these foundations and state agencies, Spread Art would not be able to provide the needed support that today's artists are in need of.
