As Spread Art begins fiscal year 2017 (July 1st - June 30th) we are grateful to have experienced another year of positive growth reaching more audience members and serving more artists in the Detroit Metro area and beyond. Below is a little update about how Spread Art has grown over the past year.
How has Spread Art grown in the past year?
In the past year Spread Art's Residency Program has grown considerably thanks to a second consecutive year of funding from the Sustainable Arts Foundation, funding from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the addition of a 3rd residency room and additional studios. Spread Art hosted 25 artists through 23 residencies totaling a full 36 months of residency opportunities! 5 Detroit based artists, 11 national artists from 9 different states and 9 international artists from 7 different countries participated in Spread Art's residency program this past year. Spread also was awarded $35,000 through the Knight Arts Challenge Grant to offer 8 Detroit based artists each a 3 month residency and $1,000 artist stipend. We have just completed our match and will put out a call for artists in the Fall of 2016 for residencies to begin in 2017.
Spread Art also experienced a growth in the number of events we hosted during the past year having presented 78 events in FY 2016 compared to 52 the year before. With this increase Spread Art was able to reach over 2500 audience members an increase of just over 1,000 attendees.
As a result of increased residency opportunities and an increase in the number of events, Spread Art saw a positive growth in our earned income as well as unearned income during the past year with the overall budget growing from $32,000 in FY15 to almost $40,000 in FY16. With the Knight Arts Challenge funding over the next two years, Spread Art is excited and honored to be able to support Detroit based artists in creating and presenting new work and looks forward to the many creative projects that will come to life during that time.

We are excited by this steady growth and look forward to presenting more events, exhibitions and residencies during next year and the years to come!
Hope to see you soon!
