Michelle Matson At Whitdel Arts
Whitdel Arts will present a solo exhibition by New York-based artist, Michelle Matson in the emerging artist gallery at Whitdel Arts. Created while in-residence with Spread Art x Playground Detroit, this new body of work explores systems of humor, social, and sexual themes. The intricate sculptures featured in this exhibition combine facsimiles of common everyday objects and figures into darkly humorous, sexually charged, dream-like totems and tableaux.
The exhibition will run from May 17-June 15, 2013. This event is free and open to the public. All ages welcome. Open gallery hours are Saturdays during exhibitions, noon-3pm, or by appointment. Spread Art and Detroit Contemporary are teaming up to bring thingNY to Detroit Contemporary on Thursday June 13th, 2013. If you are not in Detroit, Do not worry.

Created in 2011 as a parody of contemporary politics and politicians, the half-hour piece focuses on issues of immigration and national identity. New York-based musicians Jeffrey Young and Paul Pinto collaboratively wrote the text, music, and staging, scoring the piece for their own voices, violin, percussion, a turntable, and lots of cardboard boxes.

Remote Control Tomato (Thomas Bell and Christina deRoos) will perform Saturday 7/28 from 3pm - 7pm at Secret Project Robot (Brooklyn, NY) as part of the You Are Here Festival (aka The Maze)). Six projectors!!!
The ‘You Are Here’ festival, takes place in New York City approximately once every two years. The festival consists of 4 weeks of performance and time- based arts events in a life size maze installation.

"The Art of Letting Go" is a collaborative mural performance led by Thomas Bell that includes Christina deRoos, Katharine Ng, Avoid Pi, Heather Garland, and more. The image at left is a "work in progress" view from very early on. Artists have continued to add, subtract, and layer over one another's work.
Note: Don't be late for the opening/closing or you just might miss it.
In addition to the Sunday, June 7th simultaneous opening/closing event at aka Potion (248 McKibbin Street; L to Morgan) at 4pm, "The Art of Letting Go" will be on view:
